Toyota Corolla was included in the shortlist of contenders for the prestigious international award "Car of the Year".

The announcement of the winner of the annual competition will take place on March 2, 2020 (starting at 15:00) in Geneva, the day before the opening of the international motor show.

In addition to Toyota Corolla, the shortlist of the award included six more cars from European and American manufacturers.

The Award "Car of the Year" was founded by representatives of leading European automobile magazines in 1964. The jury consists of journalists from European automobile publications, and the number of places from each country is determined by the presence of the automobile industry and the market size. All cars participating in the competition must be presented in at least five European markets within 12 months before the award ceremony and be produced in a volume of at least 5,000 units. Models compete for only one award, without special prizes in individual nominations and classes. The jury evaluates design, comfort, safety, economy, controllability, functionality, environmental compliance, driving pleasure and the cost of the car.

The new Toyota Corolla was presented in February 2019. Corolla, built on the global architecture TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), received a charismatic appearance, refined controllability, the highest level of comfort and safety and a wide range of technological options. All this gives the model a high chance of winning.

Earlier in 2019, Corolla was recognized as the most popular car in the world according to the international study Focus2Move, which provides reliable professional data on the international car market. In January-July, almost 714,000 units of the model were sold worldwide.

Toyota cars have already won the Car of the Year award in 2000 (Toyota Yaris/Verso) and 2005 (Toyota Prius), and have taken places in the top three three more times with the Toyota Prius (third place, 2001), Toyota iQ (second place, 2010) and Toyota GT-86 (second place, 2013).
